Common Boiler Repair Issues

Boilers don’t have a long life expectancy. After several years, you may start to experience issues. If or when that happens, don’t hesitate to call us. Boiler repair or installation may be required if you are noticing any of the issues below:

Low Boiler repair issues - One of the first things our technicians will check is the pressure gauge. The ideal pressure should be set at the 1.5 bar. If your boiler is below 1 then it will not function properly. Low boiler pressure can be caused by a failed component seal, a recently bled radiator, or a system leak.

Leaking - A boiler leak can occur due to an issue with an internal component like a pressure valve or pump seal. If the leak is coming from the pressure value then in most cases your system's pressure has become too high. On the other hand if the leak is a result of the pump seal then it could be a sign that the seal has worn out.

No heat or hot water - Many things could be the source of the problem such as faulty motorised valves, broken system diaphragms, airlocks, low pressure, or broken thermostat. Our technicians will glady check if the issue is due to low pressure or any of the other issues mentioned above.

Radiator faults - common issue with radiators is you get a build-up of air or sludge inside of the radiator creating a cold patch or causing the heat to be distributed unequally. A significant amount of radiator issues can be fixed by bleeding the radiator, an easy task that one of skilled specialists can handle.

Frozen condensate pipes - Many homes or commercial businesses experience this issue especially during the winter season. The condensate pipe is in charge of taking the condensate from your boiler to the outside drain. During the winter time the condensate can freeze and create blockage. We often see this issue in homes where the condensate pipe is placed externally or if the pipe is located in an unheated space. This kind of problem could also allow the condensate to go back up into the boiler and cause the system to break down. However, our technicians are trained to handle such problems and can easily fix this type of problem.

Banging or whistling noises - Do you sometimes hear unusual gurgling, banging or whistling noises while the boiler is on? Then we suggest you get in touch with one of our skilled specialists. It’s normal for the boiler to make some sounds while it is starting up but it shouldn't be the case all of the time. Weird boiler sounds can be an indication of air in the system, low water pressure,  a faulty pump, or a growth of limescale known as “kettling”.

Boiler not responding to thermostat - Is your boiler unable to respond to your thermostat at all? Then the controls may be broken or old. Nevertheless, there are a couple of things that our experts can check for you to determine if it is the thermostat or the boiler that is the source of failure.

Boiler won’t turn on -  Verify that other appliances and power supplies are working in your home. If that check was successful then take a look at your fuse box and see if there are any switches that have failed or tripped. If that check was also successful then call us and we will get a technician out to inspect the problem. In some cases, the boiler may turn on for a few minutes but then shut off, this could be a sign that the pressure is low or there’s blockage somewhere in the system. In either case, we can assist you with resolving your problem.

Pilot light keeps going out - There are a couple of reasons why this can occur, you could have a faulty thermocouple that is shutting off the gas supply,  there could be a build-up of deposits or a draught blowing the light out. In either case you should call one of our boiler specialists to help investigate the issue and get your problem resolved.
